COVID-19 and Infectious Diseases

This toolset is designed to assist employers to consider employee risks, review resources to make informed policy decisions, define control items and to deploy training equiping your workers to understand, apply and benefit from a safer workplace

Designing a Safer
Workplace

This platform helps you design a safer workplace by guiding you through a process for hazard prevention and risk control. The process is based on the “Hierarchy of Controls” model. The hierarchy seeks to eliminate hazards first, substitute operations where possible to avoid encountering hazards, then it looks for ideas on how to engineer controls to isolate people from hazards and finally on to administrative controls changing how people work and finally the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Developing control measures is best achieved by involving workers in reviewing risks and the mitigation or elimination strategies.

Employee Training
& Compliance

It’s a common compliance requirement to train your employees – on safety procedures, regulations, products, processes and so forth. RiskPolicyTrain.com facilitates the training development and deploying the learning campaign. As a result, employees are trained, documentation of your training is created, and a tangible confirmation of understanding is recoded for each worker.

Policy
Wizard

RiskPolicyTrain.com was designed to make approachable the complex process of risk analysis, mitigation and training. Based on a learn-by-doing approach the tools endeavor to suggest and prepopulate a starting point and offer just in time training for the task at hand. You begin by identifying your State (some guidelines are state specific) and selecting your industry/occupation. Our database contains over 2600 occupations U.S. Department of Labor and makes use of machine algorithms to map tasks, workplace environment and physical interactions into a risk profile. This becomes a starting point and collaborators can be invited to refine your specific plan.

Deploying a
Learning Campaign

The term 'campaign' is more commonly used in advertising and marketing than it is in learning. A Learning Campaign targets a defined population of workers. Using an email invite, learners have a one click enroll and are delivered to your policy training content. The courseware has an integrated feedback capability so that any concerns or doubts related to the policies are recorded and worked through.

Hierarchy of
Controls

The “Hierarchy of Controls” is a system used in industry to minimize or eliminate exposure to hazards. It is a widely accepted system promoted by numerous safety organizations and a standard practice for health and safety in the workplace. With the COVID pandemic its applicability has broadened. The hazard controls in the hierarchy are, in order of decreasing effectiveness – so when selecting/designing control measures eliminating the risk would be the most desirable. RiskPolicyTrain.com facilitates the assembly of control measures which are right for your business.

Infectious Disease
Response Plan

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It has spread from China to many other countries around the world. The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can live on surfaces for some time or be transmitted as aerosol in the air. Your response plan should involve you employees in developing and reviewing your plan because it needs to cover any possible work-related exposure and health risks to your employees. RiskPolicyTrain.com is a tool to collaborate on risk identification, control measures, policy and the necessary training.

Other Information

OSHA General Duty Clause

Employers can be cited for violation of the General Duty Clause if a recognized serious hazard exists in their workplace and the employer does not take reasonable steps to prevent or abate the hazard. The following elements are necessary to prove a violation of the General Duty Clause:

  • -The employer failed to keep the workplace free of a hazard to which employees of that employer were exposed;
  • -The hazard was recognized;
  • -The hazard was causing or was likely to cause death or serious physical harm; and
  • -There was a feasible and useful method to correct the hazard.
At this stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is clearly a recognized hazard that can cause serious harm or death. While the hazard is not completely correctable, there are clear steps recognized by OSHA and the CDC that can make the workplace safer.
